# How Payments Work on Refund: 25% Success Fee via Stripe

> Refund charges a 25% success fee only when your case wins — nothing upfront, no fee if you don't save money. Payments are processed securely via Stripe.

Refund operates on a strict no-win, no-fee basis. You pay nothing upfront, and if your case doesn't result in a saving, you owe nothing at all. The only time a fee applies is when Refund saves you money — and then it's 25% of the amount saved, charged automatically through Stripe once your case is resolved.

## How the fee works

* **\$0 upfront** — there is no charge to start a case or to have Refund work on it.
* **No saving, no fee** — if your fine isn't waived or reduced, and no money is recovered, you are not charged anything.
* **25% of the amount saved** — when a fine is waived, reduced, or money is recovered, Refund charges 25% of that saving to the payment method you have saved in your account, via Stripe.
* **Automatic invoice** — an invoice is issued automatically as soon as the success fee is charged. No chasing required.

<Note>
  Stripe is Refund's payment processor. Your card details are handled entirely by Stripe — Refund never stores your full card number. See the [Privacy Policy](https://refund.co.nz/privacy) for more on how your payment information is managed.

## Frequently asked questions

<Accordion title="What if the charge fails?">
  If Stripe is unable to process the payment — for example because your card has expired or has insufficient funds — Refund may contact you to arrange an alternative. To avoid any delay in closing your case, keep your payment method up to date in your account settings.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="What counts as a 'win'?">
  A win is any outcome where you save money: a fine that is fully waived, a fine that is reduced to a lower amount, or a sum that is recovered on your behalf. The success fee is 25% of whatever you save compared to the original amount owed. If the outcome results in no saving at all, there is no fee.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Can I see an invoice?">
  Yes — an invoice is issued automatically each time a success fee is charged and will be sent to the email address on your account. If you need a copy of a past invoice, email [support@refund.co.nz](mailto:support@refund.co.nz) and the team will send it through.

<Tip>
  Keep your payment method up to date so there's no hold-up when a case resolves in your favour. You can update your saved card at any time from your account settings.
